![]() You don't 'spend' the assets - but you do risk them! With multiple possible focuses that expand out with options as your local capabilities improve - logistics/science/construction/military. This turns the one spy into a slowly growing network. Once embedded ( maybe put a fail chance here?) (all this is probably too much work, but maybe you'll like parts of it)Įmbed at most one 'hero spy' per target empire, you fly them there manually. You could put them in their own tab and give them unique traits like leaders! Maybe even catching them when attempting to infiltrate. Part of the fun of a spy based race is using spies to make up the difference in research or destabilizing relationships with other empires.Ĭountering could be stuff like pushing security to reduce network growth with a small possibility of capturing the spy if the ring collapses or finding the spy's ship so you can destroy it as they attempt to get to a target. It could also be kind of fun if you could set directives for the spy, like hide or build network, or gather intel or whatever rather than just drop them off and whatever happens happens. Maybe small or fringe colonies wouldn't give access to advanced stuff like tech or research and as networks grew you could choose to use a network to infiltrate another colony to gain access to more developed planets and better intel. ![]() I think it could be interesting if there was a bit more interaction to the system. ![]() This system leans pretty far the opposite direction in that once a spy is embedded you can forget they exist and just look at the screen from time to time. IMO 4x spying leans toward the more mission based send X spy to do Y kind of thing that's a lot of overhead. I like this conceptually, but I have concerns about how fun the system would be. This will be represented in an all-new overhauled Remaster-quality interface. You gain a bonus in ground combat versus them You gain a small random chance to acquire technology from them You can see if they are planning any attacks against you, and where You can refuel spy ships at their planets / starbases You can see the AI's diplomatic status with other races But it starts growing up at X points per turn.Īs you reach certain thresholds, you gain perks like: An embedded spy starts to build an intelligence network similar to how they build intelligence points now. Spies can move freely on the map and have fuel similar to a construction ship-so they can travel a ways outside your territory but not terribly far. In fact, I will probably limit the number of spies you can have to just a handfull. ![]() You will not need to spam their creation. They will be visible on the strategy map. I'm going to leave the system in place as-is for StarDrive 2.īut in the Remaster, I'm thinking that spies will now become like Troops / Leaders. (everyone is getting the remaster for free so don't freak out that it's only remaster). Here is what I am thinking for the espionage rework for the remaster. ![]()
